Modern Quilt Show Acceptance

I am celebrating today!  My quilt, Sarasota Sunset #3, was juried into a Modern Quilt Guild show.

The call for submissions asked for original quilt art created after 2005 for a juried modern quilt show at the Texas Quilt Museum for January – March 2016, sponsored exclusively by EZ Quilting by Simplicity Creative Group.  The jury committee consists of Karey Bresenhan and Nancy O’Bryant Puentes, co-directors of the Museum, and Dr. Sandra Sider, Curator, Texas Quilt Museum. The jurors planned to select approximately 18 quilts for the exhibition.

This quilt is one of my very favorites for many reasons.  First, I used several beautiful deeply colored ombres made by E. E. Schenk–they are called Cara Gelatos Daiwabo collection.  Many of these fabrics are now hard to find, unfortunately. I combined them with a few batiks and prints.

Secondly, it’s made with  improvisationally pieced blocks.  There is a lot of scale change in the block sizes.  It has an underlying structure of most column widths and some blocks being based on Fibonacci math.

Lastly, my quilting is very eccentric–walking foot without any marking.   I’ll be making more quilts in this series–the colors are inspiring to me and I still have a good sized stash of these wonderful fabrics.

This series is inspired by the use of color and geometric forms of several mid-century modern painters, especially the work of Alma Thomas and Sonia Delaunay.
