Voting–2015 Pantone Quilt Challenge Marsala

Well, I  did finish the top for the 2015 Pantone Quilt Challenge using the color MARSALA.  Challenge is being run by PlayCrafts! and On the Windy Side! You can see all the entries and vote for your favorites at either blog once they are all up —Voting  is still open.  Scroll down to Just Tops to find me–I’m #9.  There are great quilts in all 3 categories

I’m calling it a finish–even though the all important quilting will have to wait for a few days because of other projects.

I liked working with a very simple layout and jazzing it up with improvisationally pieced blocks.   Hope you like it!  Top measures 44 inches wide by 48 inches long.

I think it became more interesting when I added 1 inch wide black strips to several of the blocks.  These short black lines seemed to really pull the palette together.  Funny how a small touch can have a big impact. On the other hand,  I decided not to add more Marsala blocks.  I had more in the original layout, but I took them out because I found that the color had more ‘life’ & impact when it was surrounded by the white and chartreuse.  So, sometimes less is more…….

  1. What a beautiful design! I love that you paired marsala with the yellow, blues and greens, it really jazzes up the Marsala color. I agree with you that the black really adds depth to the design. Beautiful improvisational work as well!

    1. Thanks Anne! I appreciate your feedback. There are so many creative quilts on the site. Our modern quilt community is so super talented. It’s humbling to be part of it.
