Debra Jalbert Meet Up

Here in Florida, we have several Modern Quilt Guilds and I have a secret desire to visit all of them…..or at least meet someone in the Guild.

So, I jumped at the chance to meet up with my new friend and fellow Modern Quilter, Debra Jalbert.   We met in Lakeland FL at a great little coffee shop with excellent bagel sandwiches. Debra is an officer in the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild and we serve on a planning committee for QuiltCon.

Since it was a beautiful Florida day, we sat outside, looking across the street at a cool park.  We brought a mini Show & Tell of course.  I mean, doesn’t everyone carry around a quilt in their car just in case they meet another quilter and want to tell them about modern quilting??  Since Debra is already a convert, we spent a couple of hours talking about our quilting journey.

Here’s a photo of Debra with a block from her Fall in Florida quilt.  Since we don’t get much change in leaf colors here in Florida, we have to make our own.  Check Debra’s blog for a photo of the completed quilt.  It’s also in the online Blogger’s Quilt Festival online in the machine pieced category so you can vote for both of us on November 1st.

You gotta take a look at the fabulous Christmas Tree Sampler Quilt on the Guild website!!!  It was done as a fundraiser and will be hanging at the Orlando Festival of Trees event.  Click HERE to see it!  It’s very modern and it is a quilt that celebrates the roots of our movement.  Way to go Orlando MQG!!!
