Quilt Fabric Stash Building–for a Good Cause

The Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild was the recipient of a very generous gift recently.  The family of a deceased quilter contacted one of our members and offered the entire stash to us.  This turned out to be 20 large plastic bins of very good quality fabric and related notions.  But…it was mostly fabric!  Two of our members worked long hours sorting everything for us.

We held a big sale at our January meeting and I scored 14 yards of fabric for $53.  Charity sale buys Jan 2015That’s about $3.75 per yard.  Can’t beat that!!

The funds go into our treasury to support workshops, buying fabric for community causes, buying fabric for challenges or other events.  We will hold one more sale in February and then probably donate remaining fabric to some of the guilds  that make quilts for nonprofits.  We also do charity projects so we’ll have fabric on hand for that as well.

Did I buy fabric with a specific project in mind?   Sort of.  I have plans…..the seashell fabric will go into a quilt for our family room. I already have the design in mind. I live in Sarasota and love walking the beach!

The ones on the upper right–I have a design I’m working on right now that these will be perfect for.

The others….well…I have some ongoing scrappy type projects so they will all find a home this year.  And, they are in colorways that fit my stash.

I had a resolution NOT to buy but only work from my stash….And I will…..really…..really…..no more shopping for awhile.
