New Modern Quilt Workshops

I have two new modern quilt workshops to announce!  And, a brand new sample for a current workshop.  By the way, all of these quilts were made with stash fabric! #sewmystash2017

MidCentury Modern Curve Workshop: Newest Sample

I’m really pleased with how this sample quilt turned out.  I used a variety of white tone-on-tones for the background fabric.  And, I use some of my favorite E.E. Schenck Gelato Ombres for the color.  This workshop is proving to be quite popular.  I think it’s because it’s easy to piece and yet you can achieve some really complex looking blocks.  You’ll also learn about value, contrast and using a modern color palette.

Have you ever wanted to piece really slender insets?  The inset strips in this quilt finish between 1/4″ and 1/8″ and they are straight.  Yes….they are really small!! I’ll share my piecing tips for working with such skinny pieces of fabric.

The gray background fabric is an ombre, but you can use low volume prints, solids, Moda Grunge or other combinations for the background. In the workshop, we will talk about how to achieve a modern minimalist effect with your choice of fabrics and piecing.

[divider]NEW  Selvedge X Blocks Quilt

We all have that stash of really special selvedges.  In this project, you will take just a few of the most precious ones and totally show them off in a modern layout.  The X blocks are improvisationally pieced to give a lively movement to the quilt.  In this sample, the background is a white Moda Grunge and the selvedges are by Cotton + Steel.

  1. Just finished your fabulous workshop. I thought you might enjoy seeing my finished placemats. I was so excited about the class that I came home and finished them right away. This class is the best. I’ve had such a problem with improv but with your guidance with this technique this has propelled me into the “modern” quilt world. Forever grateful, Susan T

  2. Carole, I really enjoyed your class in Rochester this past week. I came home and finished a fourth block, but now need more background…..
