Island Batik Box 2 Arrived

Island Batik Box #2 has arrived!

I love being an Island Batik Ambassador because we receive 2 boxes a year full of fun stuff. And, Island Batik also gives us challenges each month to stimulate our creative thinking.

My 2nd Island Batik box was sent to me from the generous people at Island Batik with a super selection of  quilting materials to work with over the next few months.  I’m sending a big Thank You to Island Batik, Hobbs Batting and Aurifil Thread.

I’m looking forward to making many more modern and modern traditional quilts with all these wonderful fabrics, threads and battings.   Be sure to look for Island Batik  fabric in your local quilt shops. Click here to locate a shop near you that carries these fabrics.

First of all, I love the phrase on the outside of the box.  It seems to fit me perfectly! And you’ll find out what it means in a few months.

The box weighs 17 lbs and it is packed full of goodies.

Let’s start with these lovely threads from Aurifil and these useful color cards.

The threads even came with a tote bag. I can always use one of these.

Now, let’s look at the Island Batik fabric!

Island Brights Strip Pack–a lovely rainbow that will be fun to work with. And, it came with 2 yards of a fabric called Netting–Lemongrass (the pale green) and 2 yards of Ivy from the Basics line to use in the blocks or to make a cool backing.

A pack of 42 Ten Inch Squares! Perfect for improv cutting into squares, rectangles or curves. These are from the Paisley Dot Brights Collection. And I think they will go beautifully with the Island Batik Elementz 10″ squares in my stash.

Another set of 42 ten inch squares in a mossy, verdant collection from the Island Batik Victoria & Albert line. They will coordinate nicely with some of the Aurifil threads from the first and second box.

Three one yard cuts from the Check It Out line. The colors are a bit brighter than my photo. I see some interesting possibilities –maybe using these as bindings or borders? Or….in curved blocks!

Four half-yard cuts from the Foundations Bubbles line in Carnation, Cherry, Chartreuse and Salmon. Nice blenders !

Four more from the Foundations line. These blenders are Marbles (the medium blue), a pale blue called Scuba, a luscious purple called Aubergine and a neat orange-y red called Flame.

Five yards of a lovely neutral called Almond. It has dots of very, very pale lavender, blue, teal and almond on an off white background. This will be a great neutral for negative space in a modern/contemporary quilt. Island Battik is expanding the range of neutrals in their collections to give us modern quilters more and more options.

And, to keep the modern theme going, here are 3 one yard cuts in white, grey and black from the Island Batik Basics line. I might pair these with some of the bright yellows and reds from the Elementz line or the Paisley Dots Brights for a cool modern design.

And, there’s Hobbs batting!

And not 1, not 2 but 3 Hobbs Battings:  100% cotton, 100% wool and a cotton/wool blend.

And…the final reveal is a surprise.  You won’t see these Island Batik fabrics until early 2019.

Finally, please take a few moments to visit the blogs of my fellow Island Batik Ambassadors.  They have some great projects in many different styles from traditional, modern traditionalism and modern.  Click here for links to their blogs.
