I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected as an Island Batik Ambassador for 2018! I’ll be posting lots of projects throughout the year using Island Batik fabrics and Aurifil thread. Some will be brand new patterns and others will be new versions of patterns from my books in batiks.
It may seem surprising that a modern quilter like myself would apply to participate in this project. However, several modern quilt pattern designers have been exploring the potential of these fabrics.
Plus, batik fabric designers are moving quickly into modern designs with different types of graphics (not just the traditional ferns and florals).
Colors are changing too–bolder and more vibrant! And some batiks read as near solids.
Stay tuned–this will be an adventure!!
I’m looking forward to see your new creations with the batiks! I know you’ll surprise us….and inspire us! Have fun!
Hooray! I’m also pleased with the new trends in batiks. Right now, I use them mostly for applique, so it’ll be fun to see what you come up with this year!
I have a couple of applique ideas in mind…it will be a bit unusual for me!
I love batiks and am eager to explore more modern designs as I’m a traditional geometric block piecer with bolder colors… Welcome to Island Batik Ambassador program – you are going to be such an inspiration to me!
I use batiks for the majority of my quilts. Nothing works better for needle-turn hand appliqué pieces and batiks offer an amazing variety of colors and tones for my floral appliqué.
I have used batiks almost exclusively — the color gradients giving my projects depth and interest beyond the traditional block. Lately I have moved more boldly towards bright colors and would love to see ways I might incorporate both (is that even possible?).
I’m glad to hear batiks are being encouraged a bit more in modern quilting. Goes along well with the destashing concept as many of us former traditional quilters who’ve drank the modern Koolaid have quite a supply.?. LOVE your work. Thank you.
Thanks Liz! I’ve used batiks sparingly up until now and I’m looking forward to the challenge!
