Faced bindings are great for modern quilts.

Here is a simple tutorial for how I make a faced binding for my modern quilts.

Hanging Sleeves:  I didn’t mention this in the video, but I attach my hanging sleeve to the back of the quilt by sewing the top of the sleeve about 3/8 inch from the top edge. I sew through the facing and backing and just slightly into the batting, being careful not to let my stitches show on front.  It’s important to sew into the batting on a larger quilt so that the weight of the quilt will not pull the quilt apart.

  1. Thanks Carole – I love this faced binding. Many times the binding or even the borders move your eye from the field of the quilt to the outer edges – which can be distracting. Great instructions.
