Disclosure: The products featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik and includes products from Aurifil and Hobbs Batting.
Well, the first Island Batik BOX has arrived!! In January 2018, I was selected to be an Island Batik Ambassador. I was very excited because I used to work with batiks quite a bit in past years. As a modern quilter, I haven’t explored using them as often, so being accepted will provide the perfect opportunity for me to explore this wonderful range of fabrics. Every month, Island Batik will give us a challenge or a theme–and we are free to explore other ideas on our own as well. So there’s guidance and freedom. Perfect!
I’ll be posting projects made with this fabric every month so be sure to sign up to follow my blog by email or on Bloglovin’. (See sign up boxes to the right of this post.) Each project will come with a tutorial showing how I made it. I’ll definitely be sharing what I’m learning about using these fabrics in modern designs.
This is the first of 2 boxes of supplies that I will receive this year.
And here are all the wonderful Island Batik fabrics inside the box! You can find these collections and so many more Island Batik fabrics at your local quilt shops.

Hobbs Ultrathin cotton batting–great for light weight garments or a light weight summer quilt for Florida.
So, now, I’m off to start playing with this stash– starting with the lovely red and pink bundle. I have some ideas for a mini using a block I designed in EQ8!
[divider]About Island Batik
Island Batik has been a leader in the batik industry for over 15 years! We’re a dynamic company located in Carlsbad, California, and we pride ourselves on quality products and outstanding customer service. Our bread and butter product is cotton batik that is mainly used in the quilting industry, however our product line also includes batik rayon for apparel use.
Our fabrics are designed by our lead designer, Kathy Engle, along with additional fabric artists and designers, and are handmade in Bali, Indonesia by skilled artisans. Every yard of fabric is created using a wax resist method, a process of using wax and dye, to create patterns and give the fabric outstanding depth and range of color. Once made, the fabrics are laid out in the sun to dry and allow the colors to set.
We are a wholesale only operation; our customers are mainly independent quilt shops across the United States, although we do work with distributors to bring our fabric to quilters all over the world!
Great job, and welcome to the Ambassador team! I look forward to seeing your creations, and the gray basic and the threads are beautiful.
Thanks so much! I’m so glad to be a part of this.
Beautiful batiks and goodies Carole!! We both received the same Fire Opal rayon!! It will be a fun year!
It’s beautiful…but I don’t make garments. I think I want to make a nice, losoe top with it. But, I’ll experiment with stash fabric first.
They are beautiful! I think this will add anew dimension to the “modern” world.
Thanks Susan! It will be an interesting adventure.
